Funeral to take place on Sunday of road traffic victim Michael Ward

Road traffic victim Michael Ward will be laid to rest in his native Ballyshannon on Sunday.

The pensioner, aged in his 70s, was killed when his tractor overturned outside Ballyshannon on Thursday morning.

He has been named locally as Michael Ward, late of Cashelard, Ballyshannon.

His funeral takes place at St. Mary Church, Cashelard on Sunday at 10am.

Michael was predeceased by his parents Jim and Maggie Ann and will be sadly missed by his brother PJ, nephews Tony and Gary and all his extended family and friends.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of a collision at Corlea at around 10.45am.

The road was closed and local diversions were put in place after a tractor overturned on the roadside.

Michael's remains were removed to Sligo University Hospital for a post-mortem. He is the eighth person to die on Donegal's roads in 2022.

Gardai are appaling for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office said: “Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyshannon Garda station on 071 985 8530, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
