Shane O'Donnell in action for St Eunan's earlier this year
RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta announced today that Shane O’Donnell of St Eunan's will receive the Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh award for the Donegal Championship 2024 Player of the Year.
Naomh Adhamhnáin secured victory over An Clochán Liath in this year’s Championship Final, with O’Donnell delivering an outstanding performance.
Damien Ó Dónaill of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta remarked, “O’Donnell’s performance throughout this year’s championship was consistently excellent. He displayed strong leadership and made an impression from the very early stages.
“Congratulations to Shane, and sincere thanks to the Donegal sports journalists who collaborated to select this year’s award recipient.”
The Gradam Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh award is given annually to the standout player of the Donegal Championship, as chosen by a panel of sports journalists in the county, chaired by Damien Ó Dónaill.
This year’s award will be presented at CLG Naomh Adhamhnáin’s dinner dance on December 28th.
The award commemorates broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh, who was a defining voice of Donegal GAA until his untimely passing in 2016.
Previous recipients of the award include Michael Murphy, Mark McHugh, Odhrán Mac Niallais, Ciarán Thompson, Caolan Ward, Brendan McDyre, and Oisín Gallen
