Floodlights, a 2.4 metre high mesh panel fence and car-parking also form part of the application.
At 45 metres long and 34 metres wide, the new area will be used for training purposes rather than playing full-sided matches, and will be illuminated by LED floodlights.
The new AstroTurf area runs perpendicular to the club's existing synthetic surface near the ‘top pitch’.
The application was lodged with Donegal County Council on 1 October, and a decision is due by the end of November.
