Competitors prior to the start of the Hearts & Hips Scramble at Donegal Golf Club.
The 3rd Annual Hearts & Hips Scramble (in memory of Jimmy Higgins) took place at Donegal G.C. on Friday, 16th September. 56 Players assembled at the Clubhouse for the Draw at 2.30pm and 14 Teams of 4 were then selected and commenced play on a good golfing day which was dry but breezy.
Some teams failed to get to grips with the conditions and this was reflected in their scores. The winning Team had no such problems over the 15 holes format and they chalked up 3 Birdies and 12 Pars for a Nett Score of 50.8. Donie McIntyre, Team Captain, was ably supported by Michael McGarvey, Robbie Donovan and Michelle O'Rourke. In 2nd place, on a score of 52.2, was the team of Bobby O'Shea, Joe Ward, Hugh Giblin and Ann McGlynn. The Pettigo Maestro, Paul Murphy, led his team of Donal McGill, Marie McGarvey and Dorothy Woods into 3rd Place with David Childs, Dan Callaghan, Eugene McLaughlin and Sophie Carr in 4th Place.
Funds on the day were raised for a worthy local cause from a number of sources such as Sponsorship, contributions from the players and other individual donations. A total of €590 was collected and presented to the Patients Comfort Fund at Donegal Community Hospital and this ensured that the entire day was a great success on many fronts.
