Letterkenny Gaels much too strong for Na Rossa in Junior Championship

Conor McBrearty . . . . 2-4 for Letterkenny Gaels

A rain soaked Páirc na nGael at the Glebe Letterkenny was the venue for the Junior ‘A’ Football Championship clash of Letterkenny Gaels and Na Rossa on Saturday evening past.

Letterkenny Gaels 5-19
Na Rossa 0-10

Both clubs were anxious to get their Championship campaigns off to a good start with each having mixed fortunes in their respective leagues where the Letterkenny men finished mid table in Division 4 while the Dooey outfit are facing relegation from Division 3.
Before the game started a minutes silence was held for local man Art Mc Grath, who sadly passed away last week.
When the action got underway it was the home team who were first to register a score with only thirty seconds on the clock after Shay Doherty split the posts with a well taken point.
Gaels scored another five unanswered points before the visitors through Christian Bonnar clocked up their first couple of scores. Cormac Cannon, who has just returned from injury, finished the half with a tally of 1-3 and the Letterkenny men went in at the break with a nine point advantage.
The hosts continued to heap pressure on Na Rossa in the first quarter of the second half, scoring three goals and a plethora of points to end the game as a contest.
The visitors did manage to score a number of points during the second half but it was Charlie Cannon’s men who rallied on to take the victory.
