Donegal people woke up this morning to an early welcome into the first days of September with the higher temperatures expected to last into next week.

The Met Éireann station at Finner Camp recorded a high of 19.7C yesterday while Malin Head came in at 19.4C.

Today Mist and fog is clearing and the rest of the day will be mostly dry with some sunny spells and just a few light showers. Cloud will increase from the west this evening. Top temperatures of 19 to 21 degrees with light, southerly or variable winds, Met Éireann say are expected.

The Solar UV Index is said to be moderate today and tomorrow and Sunday, so remember to protect yourself if out, even if is cloudy.

It will dry tonight, with variable cloud and patchy mist and fog. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees in mostly light southwest or variable breezes, increasing moderate near the west and north coast.

SATURDAY: Mostly dry with some areas of low cloud, mist and fog at first, clearing in the morning, leaving a day of sunny spells with just the chance of a few light showers. Highest temperatures of 20 to 22 degrees in light southerly or variable breezes.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Staying dry overnight with some areas of fog will develop. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in mostly light southwesterly breezes, more moderate near Atlantic coasts.

SUNDAY: Dry with sunny spells and some fog to start. There is a chance of thicker cloud building in the northwest with a few spots of light rain or drizzle developing. Highest temperatures of 19 to 23 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees. Areas of fog will form in mainly southerly or variable breezes.

FURTHER OUTLOOK: There is uncertainty in the further outlook, but current indications suggest that high pressure will gradually decline eastwards, allowing some rain or showers to move in. Temperatures continue to reach the low to mid-twenties generally.
