A cold weather advisory has been issued for Donegal and will be in place until Friday night.
Met Éireann has warned that there will be sharp and severe frost hitting Donegal over the next week.
The forecaster says that there will be icy patches and dense fog at times - conditions that they say will lead to hazardous and dangerous driving conditions.
The advisory came into place at 3pm on Saturday and will remain until 10pm on Friday.
The notice affects the entire country, which is now braced for one of its coldest spells since the big freeze of 2010 - when temperatures went below -10 degrees.
Meteorologist Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel, has said weather models indicate that a 'blocking pattern' may cause air from the Arctic to flow over Ireland within weeks.
