Donegal sees driest February in years in new weather records reached last month

February 2025 has been the warmest February on record since 1998 according to Met Éireann's Weather Provisional Statement for last month, with Donegal the driest place in the country.

The forecaster revealed that the majority of monthly rainfall totals were above their 1991-2020 Long-Term Average (LTA). Percentage of monthly rainfall values ranged from 66% (63.2 mm) at Malin Head, to 220% (213.4 mm) at Cork Airport, Co Cork.

Overall Donegal had lower rainfall across the month of February, with last month being one of the driest for the county in recent years.

Monthly mean wind speeds ranged from 7.6 knots (14.1 km/h) at Moore Park, Co Cork and Mount Dillon, Co Roscommon with highest speeds of 17.7 knots (32.8 km/h) at Malin Head.

Gales were reported on February 1, 3, 20, 21, 23 and 26 with up to strong gale winds reported on Sunday, February 23.
