Met Éireann issues weekend weather forecast for Ireland with two hazards

Met Éireann has updated its weather forecast for Ireland for the weekend after Storm Goretti brought wintry weather so the southern edge of the country late on Thursday.

In their weekend forecast, Met Éireann say "low pressure dominates, with spells of wet and sometimes windy conditions, turning milder from Sunday."

Their Saturday forecast reads: "Starting cold in places on Saturday morning with frost, ice and fog slow to clear. Dry with sunny spells for most though a few wintry showers will affect Ulster and north Leinster. Cloud will build from the west through the afternoon with outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing across Atlantic counties developing, extending eastwards in the evening. Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with mostly light southwesterly breezes, backing southerly tomorrow evening.

"Rain and drizzle in the west will extend eastwards, becoming widespread [on Saturday night]. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 2 degrees in the north and east initially, becoming milder with the rain with lowest temperatures generally of 3 to 7 degrees. Light to moderate southerly winds will increase fresh to strong."

For Sunday, they predict: "Windy with widespread outbreaks of rain continuing, turning heavy in places with a chance of hail. Milder with the highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees. Southerly winds will be fresh to strong reaching near gale force at times.

"Outbreaks of rain will gradually clear northeastwards with showers and clear spells following on Sunday night. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees, with southwesterly winds easing moderate to fresh."

Looking at next week, the forecast says "a mix of sunshine and showers, merging to longer spells of rain at times [on Monday]. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees, with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

"There is uncertainty in the details [for Tuesday], but likely a wet start with widespread outbreaks of rain, clearing to bright spells and showers. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly winds."

They conclude that "current indications show a continuation of unsettled conditions" later next week too.
