One of the biggest travel publications in the world has decreed Errigal mountain as Ireland’s best sunrise or sunset.
A new pathway has attacted people in their droves to the mountain from Ireland and from further afield. People have taken to training on the mountain in order to prepare themselves for higher mountains across the globe. Errigal is Donegal's highest mountain and is set in the Derryveagh mountains which offers people a choice of hikes depending on their abilities.
The hike has become popular in all seasons with more and more people shooting drone footage from the top.
This week, Lonely Planet, published a list of Ireland’s 12 best hikes and walks and Errigal placed at number four. The Great Sugar Loaf in Wicklow took the covetted first place followed by Ireland's tallest peak, Caraountoohill in Kerry and Mweelrea in County Mayo.
Lonely Planet author Killian Andersen wrote: "The best views in Donegal have just gotten even better. A new trail and stairs have been added to this beautiful mountain to make it that bit easier to reach the summit.
"If you’re looking to catch a sunrise or sunset then Errigal is the hike for you. The 360 degree views of Donegal guarantee the perfect vantage point to watch the sun appear or disappear. If you’re lucky, you might even get above the clouds and see a cloud inversion. The best time to catch one of these is during autumn or winter."
