The doctor’s dispensary in Lettermacaward needs to be upgraded and reopened, a local councillor has said.

The dispensary was closed before Christmas with the understanding that it would open again within three weeks, Councillor Marie Therese Gallagher said.

As a result of the closure the people of Lettermacaward have to travel to other areas to avail of doctor’s services.

Speaking at a recent meeting of the Glenties Municipal District, Cllr Gallagher said that work on building has yet to commence and there are growing fears that works will not go ahead.

She proposed that a letter be written on behalf of all councillors, in the Glenties Municipal Area, to the Health Service Executive (HSE) in relation to the issue.

“You can’t get a doctor in the Dungloe or Gaoth Dobhair area, we need to write to the HSE on behalf of all of us and get the building upgraded. The people of Lettermacaward have to travel too far,” she said.
