Flights from Donegal to Glasgow welcomed but different days suggested

Councillors welcome the reinstatement of flights from Donegal Airport to Glasgow

Councillors welcomed news that flights from Donegal airport and Glasgow are to resume in July but queried whether flights could operate on alternative days rather than on Saturday and Sunday.

Loganair confirmed in March that the Donegal to Glasgow flights were to resume in July. The Scottish airline Loganair announced in August, 2021, it was pulling out of Donegal.

Sinn Féin Councillor John Shéamais Ó Fearraigh congratulated those who were instrumental in bringing the flights back at a recent sitting of Glenties Municipal District in Dungloe.

He said: "I would like to congratulate the team at the airport in getting this flight back. It is very important that people use it now and it is a huge advantage to the county as it attracts people from Scotland to Donegal. I appreciate that it is only a trial run."

Independent Councillor Micheal Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig echoed his fellow councillors' sentiments adding he had been in contact with Loganair to see whether the flight days could be altered."It would be nice if the flights were on different days. Some people are thinking they won’t be able to use it on a Saturday and Sunday. I am going to use it, Friday to Friday would be good."

The route will operate on the airline's new and more efficient ATR42 aircraft, the first time the airline has flown the type on a route to Donegal.

The Glasgow to Donegal flights are scheduled for 3:15pm on Saturday, July 1, and 10:55pm on Sunday, July 2. The Donegal to Glasgow flights that weekend are at 12:25pm Saturday and 4:35pm Sunday. The route will open from July 1 to September 24.

The Chief Commercial Officer, Loganair, Luke Lovegrove, said: "We are delighted to be able to restore this important connectivity between the UK and Ireland, helping families stay connected and facilitating leisure breaks too. We expect our summer flights to be extremely popular; therefore, we encourage customers to book as soon as possible to secure the best fares."
