A man killed in a workplace explosion in Bloody Foreland yesterday has been named locally as Stephen Montgomery, 43.
Mr Montgomery was working with machinery outside a roadside house when it is understood an explosion happened. Yesterday, gardaí confirmed they were investigating the scene of ‘an apparent explosion.’
Mr Montgomery, a father-of-one was from Dunfanaghy. There was huge sadness yesterday as news of the tragedy began to filter throughout the county.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in Bloody Foreland yesterday. Gardaí evacuated the area following the explosion and closed roads leading to the scene of the explosion. Members of the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal also attended the scene yesterday evening. The Health and Safety Authority were also notified.
Mr Montgomery’s body was later removed to Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH) where a postmortem is due to take place.
The exact details of how the tragedy occurred have not yet been released. It is understood two other men were working at the site when the incident happened.
