A swim which was planned to take place from Gola Island in aid of Donegal Cancer Flights and services will now leave from the Boatstrand, Carrickfin at 3pm on Saturday, August 12.
The Donegal Cancer Flights and services were established to provide care within the community and promote positive social change. The service provides community support for cancer patients, their families and carers. They also provide subsidised flights, support and free counselling for children with severe or life limiting conditions and their parents and families, in the area. They also offer free counselling services to cancer patients and family members, information evenings on cancer related topics by healthcare professionals, pampering days where clients are treated to a range of free therapies and treatments in the relaxed atmosphere of Ionad Naomh Pádraig.
The location for the swim was changed due to weather conditions and to ensure the safety of all those concerned.
The twenty-five swimmers will swim a 2km route around the safe inlet at the Boatstrand with a safety boat and support in place. Organisers are asking for support in helping with car parking and such for a short while as all those organising the event will be swimming.
They are also looking for two experienced kayakers to help with the event. If you can help, please message Charlie Boyle, one of the organisers here. You can donated to the gofundme page here.
To date over €6,000 has been raised of €8,500.
