Sorcha Rodgers and Eamonn Ó hArgáin
Huge excitement is expected in Glenties town this Thursday night, when double All-Ireland winner Sorcha Rodgers/Hennessey arrives back with her trophies.
Sorcha, who is the daughter of publican Philip Rodgers and Helene Hennessey, New Ross, achieved great success at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann winning two titles in the u/15 competitions.
An event is being held for her at the front of Roddy’s bar at 7pm when their friends and relations in Glenties will gather to congratulate the talented musician.
Sorcha found inspiration for her music listening to great musicians such as the Campbell brothers, Jimmy and Vincent. She also loves playing alongside and listening to the great musicianship of Jimmy's son, Peter Campbell, whom she says has also taught her a lot.
Sorcha accompanied Jimmy Campbell during quite a few music sessions on her frequent trips to Glenties in years gone by and says she loves the traditional music of the Glenties area. The local musicians have always been a source of inspiration to her, she says.
She said: "There is always music in Glenties. When I am up there I am always inspired to play."
Sorcha's success ensured she was invited to play a few sets on TG4 recently. Sorcha is also a very gifted fiddle player. Musicians and friends Tara Connaghan, Denise Boyle, Rosa Flannery and Siobhán McEllhinney will also be present on Thursday night.
