Historic meeting taking place on Arranmore Island this morning

The first ever meeting of the Joint Committee of Social Protection, Community and Rural Development to be held outside the houses of the Oireachtas is taking place on Arranmore Island this morning.

The meeting is being chaired by Deputy Denis Naughton.

The meeting is taking place in Gairmscoil Mhic Dhiarmada, Leabgarrow and is being broadcast on Oireachtas TV and www.oireachtas.ie.

Three modules are on the agenda for discussion.

Officials will also meet with island community groups in the community centre ahead of a tour of the island later this afternoon.
