The former Bunbeg garda station.

The former Bunbeg garda station. which has its own holding cell, has been sold with the building fetching almost three times the asking price.

The building was bought for €85,000 in an online auction hosted by Galway-based auctioneers O’Donnellan and Joyce.

A reserve price of €30,000 was placed on the buildings, but a flurry of bids upped the ante considerably.

There were 16 interested bidders and the identity of the buyer was not disclosed.

Built in 1970, the building served as the garda station before being closed under the Garda District and Station Consolidation Programme.

The internal area of the property is approximately 68.72 sq. m. (740 sq. ft) and includes an entrance area which leads into the former public office and the former sergeant’s office.

A cell is located at the rear of the building.
