Works to begin on Bun an Inbhir lake in January

Works on a walkway around Bun an Inbhir lake are due to begin this January. The lake lies in the heart of the Gaoth Dobhair Gaeltacht and is popular with both locals and tourists.

Treasa Ní Ghallchóir of Coiste Forbartha Chnoc Fola said that grant funding of €165,000 will fund both the cleaning of the lake and a walkway being built around it.

Facilities for fishing will also be part of the development at the lake.

“The work will increase tourism to the area and people will also be able to walk around the lake which will greatly benefit the people of the area. It will be great to see the lake being used as an asset. The area attracts tourists all year round and this will be of benefit to them as well,” she said.

There will also be a cycling route for children.

“We are delighted as well that there will be a mobile fishing platform for those who are disabled. We hope to see everyone between young and old get great use out of one of our natural assets,” she said.

She added that the local contractor Hughie Harkin has been appointed to carry out the work.

It is hoped that work on the lake will be finished in June.
