Gaoth Dobhair businessman Joseph Molloy has been selected to go forward for Fine Gael selection for this year’s local elections.
The selection convention for the Glenties Municipal District candidate takes place in the Highlands Hotel at 7.30pm next Thursday night. For Mr Molloy the evening holds a deeper sentiment, he will be returning to the town in which his forefathers worked and lived before him.
Mr Molloy who always had an interest in politics said he wants to be elected to get things done. He has a strong interest in tourism, infrastructure and is also a keen sportsman.
Steeped in business from infancy, his forefathers were businessmen. Molloy's shop has been located in Derrybeg since 1886 making Josie the fourth generation of businessmen to stem from his family.
"My great grandfather came from Glenties. So, on Thursday night as I stand for convention, the building beside us, McDevitt's institute, where my great grandfather, Francie Molloy, would have been. And, our old family home is around the corner from it," he said.
Married to Karen, they have two children, Danny is at college in Dublin and his daughter is in Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair. Mr Molloy knows the area, understands the community and wants to work towards making the community a better place to live for them.
Spirits are high in the shop where Mr Molloy and his family has created employment and supported locals for over a century.
The businessman joins Killybegs man, Manus Boyle and youth worker, Joseph Harley from Frosses going forward for the Fine Gael local selection convention for the 2024 Council elections. The selection convention for the Donegal area takes place on Friday, January 19.
