A 12-metre fishing boat ran aground during the early hours of this morning off the coast of Donegal

Rescue mission after fishing vessel runs aground on Inis Meáin Island

At approximately 6am this morning, the Rescue Coordination Centre at Malin Head received a distress call from a 12-metre fishing vessel with 4 people onboard off the coast of Gaoth Dobhair. 

The vessel had run aground on Inis Meáin Island. 

The Sligo based Helicopter R118, Arranmore all-weather lifeboat and Bunbeg Coast Guard Unit were immediately tasked.

The R118 recovered all 4 casualties from the vessel and landed them ashore at Donegal Airport. The Irish Coast Guard understand all casualties are doing well and no medical attention was required.
