Lifetime Achievement Award for singer Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill

Renowned traditional singer and musician Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill is to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the sixth RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards.

The singer and her family are very closely connected to Rann na Feirste and the Rosses area. Her paternal grandparents moved from Rann na Feirste to Kells, County Meath in the 1930's.

Over the years, Tríona has worked with Skara Brae, The Bothy Band and Nightnoise.

Hailing from an exceptionally talented family, together with her brother Micheál Ó Domhnaill, younger sister Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill and multi-instrumentalist Dáithí Sproule, Ní Dhomhnaill formed the group Skara Brae.

Her aunt Nellie, contributed over 300 folk songs to the folklore collection of University College Dublin.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is made annually by the Executive Steering Committee of the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards to a living artist who has made a significant contribution to Irish folk music over many years.

Mary Black, Christy Moore, Steve Cooney, Moya Brennan and Andy Irvine have all been recipients of the award.
