An illegal waste dump with dozens of dirty nappies has littered the countryside in west Donegal.

The unsightly dump, which is located at Mín na Loch, Gaoth Dobhair, also contains empty cans, pots, pans, glass bottles and toiletries.

It is not the first time this form of dumping has been seen locally according to Independent Councillor Micheál Mac Giolla Easbuig.

“Nappies have been dumped again in one of the most beautiful areas of Dún na nGall,” he told DonegalLive. “I have this reported to Comhairle Contae Dhún na nGall.”

“There is a broader question that has to be asked and that is that the recycling facilities that we provide as a council are not adequate. We have bring banks that do bottles, glass and tin but it does not do other recycling.”

Mac Giolla Easbuig is calling for more availability indicating that insufficient waste facilities for the public may have led to the illegal dumping.

“In Europe we don't even meet the mark in terms of very localised recycling services beyond tin and glass,” he said.

“We need to change policy and Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael have utterly neglected Donegal in relation to financing us properly to provide these services and we need that money and I am asking for Fianna Fáil/Fine Gael to stop neglecting us they often say that we're the Forgotten County were not the Forgotten County we are the county that FF/FG does not care about.”
