Sinn Féin TD Pearse Doherty has paid tribute to the young men who lined out for Donegal in their Ulster Minor Football Championship win over Fermanagh on Saturday.

Cathal McGee and Colm Ó Dochairtaigh from CLG Ghaoth Dobhair were part of the Donegal side managed by Barry Ward, who defeated Fermanagh 3-13 to 1-4 in Donagh in their first outing in the competition.

“Tuesday week will be 12 years since my father passed away,” Mr Doherty posted on Saturday of his late father, Micheál Doherty. “But I know he would be a very proud man today as both of his grandsons togged out for the Donegal minors in the first game of the championship.”

The duo were joined on the Donegal team by fellow Gaoth Dobhair players Padraig McGee, captain Jordi Gribben, Dallan Ó Baoill and Cathal Gallagher.

“And I know that the fact that Colm and Cathal were joined by four other Gaoth Dobhair club mates would have been another source of pride,” Mr Doherty added. “Well done to all the Donegal team on a strong win against Fermanagh. Maith Sibh.”
