Clannad to be awarded the Freedom of Donegal

Clannad will be awarded the Freedom of the County next week in Lifford.

A Civic Reception has been arranged for Friday, May 17, at 3pm, in the Council Chamber at County House.

The Programme for the event will begin with a welcome by Cathaoirleach of County of Donegal, Cllr Martin Harley, followed by an address by Chief Executive, Mr John G. McLaughlin and then tributes from representatives of each political party

There will be a presentation of County Badge and Scroll by Cllr Harley before Clannad will speak. The event will conclude with the signing of Distinguished Visitors Book.

Moya Brennan, a member of the band, is the current Donegal Person of the Year. Clannad were founded by Pádraig and Noel Ó Dúgáin with Pól, Ciarán and Máire Uí Bhraonáin in 1970 and have achieved worldwide renown since, winning numerous awards, including the Ivor Novello Award, a Grammy Award and a BAFTA.
