Glenties MD councillor Michael McClafferty criticises vandalism in Moyra area

Some of the recent acts of vandalism highlighted by Cllr Michael McClafferty

Independent Councillor Michael McClafferty from the Glenties Municipal District has highlighted several incidents of vandalism in the area of Moyra which he said are highlighting a "general sense of worry and concern with the community".

He said: "I’m disappointed to have to mention this, but there have been several incidents of vandalism in our local community of Moyra. People’s private property’s and homes have been subject to graffiti and damages.

"Public road signs were also damaged in the acts. There is a general sense of worry and concern within the community, especially among the elderly.

"A number of years ago, we experienced a difficult period where our road signs were being destroyed and I would hate to see us fall back to that.
"Donegal County Council do not have the funding to be replacing signs and such monies are needed urgently in other areas of our community for enhancements and improvements. I ask whoever is committing these criminal activities to please stop immediately and show our locals and our area the respect they deserve.
"I urge anyone with further information about these acts to please contact our local Garda," he added.
