Arranmore native Peter O’Donnell has been named as the Clean Coasts Ocean Hero Individual of the Year.
Peter has been involved with Clean Coasts since 2012 when he joined due to the unsightly volume of pollution on our shores, which was also noted and commented on regularly by visitors to his Island.
He normally hosts at least six beach cleans per year, encourages the schools and locals to annually get involved in the Big Beach Clean, and has set up litter stations at the local beaches, which include pickers and bags, to encourage anyone using the beaches to do a two-minute beach clean.
The individual of the year is a category that acknowledges those individuals who initiate change and inspire others to do more to protect and conserve their coastline.
Clean Coasts hosted the Ocean Hero Awards Ceremony and Ocean Talks in Kildare Street, in Dublin, to celebrate and thank the groups, individuals, communities, and businesses who, throughout the year, have done outstanding work to protect their local coastline and environment.
Each year, the Ocean Hero Awards honour the invaluable contribution Clean Coasts volunteers, groups and communities have made towards conserving our spectacular coastline.
