The Secret Garden will be staged in the grounds of Rathmullan House
Theatre fans are in for a huge treat this summer with a wonderful opportunity to enjoy Chapterhouse’s The Secret Garden in the stunning setting of The Gardens at Rathmullan House.
A spokesperson for Chapterhouse said: “Theatre under the open sky is the perfect pastime for those long summer evenings, and audiences are welcome to relax with a picnic while they watch the show unfold.
Adapted for stage by Laura Turner, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett follows young Mary Lennox on her journey of discovery as she travels to her uncle’s house deep
in the Yorkshire countryside. Unexpected friends and magical creatures help her
unlock the mystery of the secret garden.
Newly orphaned, Mary arrives at her Uncle Archibald Craven in his sprawling Yorkshire estate, Misselthwaite Manor. Mary discovers a mysterious door and clashes with the other children of the estate, the gardener’s boy Dickon and her cousin Colin.
Originally published as a serialised story in The American Magazine by Frances Hodgson
Burnett, now in the hands of accomplished playwright Laura Turner, The Secret Garden
becomes a charmingly pastoral tale of self-belief and the healing power of nature.
The Gardens at Rathmullan House provide the perfect setting for this enchanting story, loved by children and adults alike.
The spokesperson said: “Alive with music and song and featuring an array of especially designed creatures, The Secret Garden captures the spirit of summer and promises to be an unforgettable evening of magical theatre in magical surroundings”
