The European Parliament Liaison Office in Ireland is delighted to partner with Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair to present free showings of all five films shortlisted for the LUX Audience Award, 2023.
LUX – The European Audience Film Award was introduced in 2020 and is presented every year by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas. For more information on the LUX Audience Award visit here.
The LUX Audience Award aims to strengthen ties between politics and the people by inviting European audiences to become active protagonists and rate their favourite films in order to help determine the winner. The films are being screened, and rated by audiences throughout the EU.
Thanks to the LUX Audience Award, all five films will be subtitled by the European Parliament in the twenty-four official languages of the EU, including Irish, and will be screened across Europe and beyond. The screenings in Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair will feature subtitles in both Irish and English.
All five shortlisted films are critically acclaimed and have each been nominated for and won numerous prizes at film festivals around the world. An integral part of these screenings is audience voting. Audiences are invited to rate the LUX Audience Award films: five stars means excellent to one star which means poor.
Rating is open until June 12. The final ranking will be determined by combining the public score from all around Europe and the score from the Members of the European Parliament, with each group being weighted at 50%. The winning film will be announced at the LUX Audience Award Ceremony at the European Parliament in June 2023.
The screenings represent an excellent opportunity to see locally some of the most acclaimed films European films of the past year. They will be of particular interest to those interested in international films and languages.
This mini-season of LUX Audience Award films will be officially launched on Friday, May 12, with a reception open to all attendees. All are welcome.
