550 singers needed to take part in Donegal Town 550th event
A performance featuring 550 singers is taking place in Donegal Town, and anyone who is interested is invited to register for the event.
A spokesperson said: “Sing 550 is a gathering of 550 diverse singers from the Northwest and beyond.
“All are welcome to come and sing, regardless of experience. If you are not in a choir or sing regularly, that’s no problem - we are encouraging anyone and everyone to join us for this once-off event! We are hoping to create a spectacular event with strength in numbers.”
Sing 550 is part of the Donegal 550: a celebration of Donegal Castle and Abbey's 550th anniversary. To celebrate this there is a year-long calendar of events taking place in Donegal Town.
For those interested in taking part in Sing 550, here is what to expect.
“Every participant will receive lyrics and music to learn the songs in advance, and then we will practice together on the day of the performance,” explained the spokesperson.
“We have chosen a wide variety of popular songs, from contemporary to classical and everything in between, such as Amazing Grace, Here Comes the Sun, and What a Wonderful World.”
Practice takes place on Sunday, September 22 at 12pm, with a break at 3pm.
The performance will then take place at 5.50pm at St Agatha’s Church, Clar, Donegal Town.
Sing 550 has been organised by the committees of local choirs Donegal Abbey Singers, The Bluestack Chorale, Donegal Voices, EnCór Tír Chonail, and Tír Chonaill Youth Choir.
More information on how to get involved in this and other activities taking place as part of the 550 celebrations can be found on the Donegal Town 550th Facebook page.
