The Family Friendly Kindercounties festival takes place on August 24-25
The shooting of a documentary and a record attempt are just two of the things on the menu of the first-ever Family Friendly Kindercounties festival.
The event takes place on August 24-25 on the beach in front of the surf club in Rossnowlagh, hosted by the Rossnowlagh Surf Club in conjunction with Friends of Rossnowlagh and Liquid Therapy and is based around the Junior Surfing Competition that takes place every year.
The focus will be on Family Friendly events over an action-packed weekend. The surfing competition will be the final one of an All Ireland tour and will crown the national champions in Boys and Girls U14, U16 and U18 divisions as well as Longboard.
To make matters more exciting RTE will be filming live for a new documentary they'll be making about the Junior Surfers in Ireland as they try and become Irish Champions.
Apart from the main event on Saturday, there will be beach yoga by Zia at 10am and live music by local band the Schlacks at the surf club car park at 7pm.
On Sunday the competition will continue but there will also be an attempt to break the record for the most waves caught in an hour.
“ We are encouraging anyone who can stand up on a board and all of our members to be at the surf club for 10:30am to try and break the record between 11am and 12 noon,” event organiser said. “We'll be fundraising for this event and all money raised will be going to local charity Liquid Therapy which is based on Rossnowlagh Beach.”
Other events on the Sunday include a Sand Sculpture Competition on the beach at 12 run by Friends of Rossnowlagh, the Conor Britton Paddle Battle at 1pm followed by prize-giving and live music by Gary Doherty in the Surf Club Car Park at 2pm.
“We'd like to thank all our sponsors for making the weekend possible which include: Sand House Hotel, Tickety-Moo, Rossnowlagh Surf School, Gaslight Restaurant, Finnegans Shop, BoorTree Camping, Finn McCool’s Surf Shop and School, Irish Surfing, Smugglers Creek and Rip Curl,” the organisers added.
