An Elvis Presley fan club is back next month to raise funds for Donegal Hospice in memory of the late Noreen McGarvey.

The club will be running an event in An Chuirt Hotel, Gaoth Dobhair on Saturday, September 14.

The ‘Elvis Rocking In The Hills Of Donegal’ fan club is based in Dungloe and it is run by Beatrice Farrelly. The fan club was established in 2014, it was launched in The Bridge Inn Dungloe - formerly Stepping Stones - by Tom Gilson.

“We will have the amazing Tom Gilson performing his tribute to Elvis,” event organisers said. “Tom is a real favourite with his fans here in Donegal. We will be raising funds for Donegal Hospice in memory of our dear friend Noreen McGarvey.

The Hospice is a very special place with wonderful staff who treat everyone with so much love, care and dignity. We will have a raffle and a couple of auctions on the night. Please bring cash as our machine doesn’t work. Doors open at 8pm. Admission €15. We are also celebrating our Club’s 10th birthday.

“Over the past 10 years we have raised more than €32,300 for 20 different charities. We want to thank everyone for their support and generosity over the years. On the Sunday morning, September 15, we will have our Gospel Mass in St Columba’s Church in Burtonport at 11.30am. We'd like to thank Fr. Pat Ward and Joe Rogers for their continued support.”

Noreen McGarvey was also a member of Cruit Island Golf Club, and a part of various musical groups including Burtonport Variety Group, St Columba's Church Choir in Acres and a member of Donegal Parents and Friends for people with learning disabilities.

She served as a Fianna Fáil Councillor having been elected to Donegal County Council in 2019 and named as Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District in 2020 and passed away peacefully last December in the care of the staff of the Donegal Hospice.
