RTÉ's Nationwide to feature the people and heritage of historic Donegal Town

From the iconic castle to businesses such as Magee, the episode explores the vibrant community past and present

RTÉ’s Nationwide is set to showcase Donegal Town and the celebrations that are taking place to mark its 550th birthday. 

The episode will be broadcast on RTÉ One this Wednesday, September 11 at 7pm. 

A spokesperson said: “Presenter Anne Cassin hears about the celebration plans and some of the attractions that draw people from near and far to this vibrant town year in, year out but especially this year for this significant anniversary. 

“Nationwide visits some of the local traditional businesses including Magees, a fifth-generation Irish family business.  

“Mary Harte, meets historians and locals to trace that history all the way back to the first settlers. 

“She visits the castle to hear about the major renovation works carried out there and meet tourists who have come to visit. 

“Plus, she tours the town’s railway station museum which tells the story of Donegal's railway history.”

The episode will also be available live and on catch up on the RTE Player.
