Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe

Central Library Letterkenny will host free Europe Day event

Central Library Letterkenny

To celebrate Europe Day, the Central Library in Letterkenny will host a free event on Friday, May 9, from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

There will be sample foods and fun facts from countries including Poland, Holland, France, Spain and Ireland. There will also be the opportunity to explore some Irish culture and learn some Irish phrases (Cúpla focal).

Europe Day celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the 'Schuman declaration', a historic proposal made by Robert Schuman, French Foreign Minister, in 1950 that laid out the foundation of European cooperation. Schuman's proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.

Imeacht Lá na hEorpa ag Lárleabharlann Leitir Ceanainn

Chun Lá na hEorpa a cheiliúradh, beidh imeacht saor in aisce á reáchtáil ag an Lárleabharlann i Leitir Ceanainn Dé hAoine 9 Bealtaine ó 11.00am go dtí 1.00pm. Beidh bianna samplacha agus fíricí spraíúla ann ó thíortha lena n-áirítear an Pholainn, an Ísiltír, an Fhrainc an Spáinn agus Éire. Beidh deis againn freisin cultúr na hÉireann a fhiosrú agus roinnt frásaí Gaeilge a fhoghlaim (Cúpla focal).

Ceiliúrann Lá na hEorpa an tsíocháin agus an aontacht san Eoraip. Is é an dáta seo ná comóradh 'dearbhú Schuman', togra stairiúil a rinne Robert Schuman, Aire Gnóthaí Eachtracha na Fraince, i 1950 a leag amach bunús an chomhair Eorpaigh. Meastar gurb é togra Schuman tús an Aontais Eorpaigh anois.

In 2025, is ócáid speisialta é Lá na hEorpa, mar táimid ag ceiliúradh 75 bliain ó dhearbhú Schuman

Ní gá áirithint a dhéanamh don ócáid saor in aisce seo. Feicfidh muid ann thú!"
