Donegal County Council are hosting several events across the county to mark Biodiversity Week.
National Biodiversity Week is from May 16 to 25 this year, spanning International Biodiversity Day on May 22, and will be celebrated across Ireland with the collective aim of connecting people with nature.
Locally, Donegal County Council are hosting several Biodiversity Week events, from engaging guided walks along the River Deele, a Pollinator ID workshop in Buncrana to a chance to Explore Your Shore and learn about beach biodiversity at Maghery Strand.
People can discover the nighttime wildlife at one of the many bat walks on offer from Bat Conservation Ireland or pop into one of the many biodiversity activities being held at Glenveagh National Park at the first Biodiversity Week Festival, supported by Donegal County Council Biodiversity and Heritage Offices.
Lots of walks and talks are happening to give you a chance to experience nature and learn more about biodiversity in your neck of the woods. The coordination of Biodiversity Week is organised by the Irish Environmental Network (IEN) and funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).

Julie Corry, Donegal County Council Biodiversity Officer is urging people to get out and enjoy all that Donegal biodiversity has to offer.
She said: “Donegal County Council is buzzing for Biodiversity Week and we are happy to support more walks, talks and events in the county this year, allowing people the chance to experience and enjoy biodiversity all around them.
“We are delighted to be supporting more biodiversity events this year through funding support from the Heritage Council’s County Biodiversity Action Plan programme and through the NPWS’s Local Biodiversity Action Fund.”
Full details of all events led or supported by Donegal County Council are available on both www.donegalculture.ie and the Irish Environmental Network’s website for Biodiversity Week. Further details of all events will be promoted on Donegal County Council social media channels too.
