The island of Inis Bó Finne will come alive with creativity and community spirit on Saturday, July 26, as it hosts “Cruithaitheacht Cois Farraige” - a distinctive, bilingual arts and culture event presented by Turas Úr.
This vibrant celebration, running from 2pm to 6pm shines a spotlight on the rich traditions, language, and contemporary creative talent of the Gaeltacht.

Rooted in the island’s heritage and breathtaking landscape, the one-day festival invites visitors to immerse themselves in a dynamic programme of visual art, poetry, music, and participatory workshops, all delivered through both Gaeilge and English. Supported by Ealaín na Gaeltachta and Donegal County Council and as part of the Earagail Arts Festival, Turas Úr blends tradition with innovation, fostering cultural exchange and renewal.

The Island Art Trail will transform Inis Bó Finne into an open-air gallery featuring temporary sculptures, soundscapes, and installations created by Gaeltacht and guest artists. Each work is inspired by the natural beauty of the island and created in line with a leave-no-trace ethos. In a special poetry performance curated by acclaimed poet Marie Dinny Wren, three poets selected from an open call will share their original bilingual works inspired by the island, offering a powerful space for storytelling and reflection shaped in collaboration with the local community.
Sligo-based artist Barra Cassidy has been awarded a week-long residency on the island. During his stay, he will live and work on Inis Bó Finne, creating a new piece that responds to its culture, people, and history. Family-friendly arts workshops will also take place on the day of the event, encouraging participation from both island and mainland communities. The resulting artworks will be displayed along the art trail, highlighting the power of collaboration.
Renowned artist Ian Gordon will be joined by the Plein Eire painting group for an afternoon of en plein air painting. Visitors are invited to bring their own materials and join in the open-air creative experience. The festivities will conclude with a lively traditional céilí at the Island Hall, where local and guest musicians will come together for an evening of music, dance, and celebration of island life.
