Have a Christmas jumper that’s lost its sparkle? Join the Christmas Jumper Swap

Get into the Christmas spirit and give those unwanted Christmas jumpers a new lease of life

Got yourself a Christmas jumper that’s lost its sparkle? Join us for our festive Christmas Jumper Swap at the Central Library, Letterkenny from Monday 8 to Wednesday, December 17.

This eco-friendly event lets you refresh your Christmas wardrobe while giving pre-loved festive knitwear a second chance to shine.

How it works: Simply bring along a clean, good-condition Christmas jumper to your nearest library up until Friday, December 5. A full list of libraries and our free services is available on the Donegal County Council website.

Whenever you bring a jumper to your nearest library, you will receive a token. Simply bring this token with you to the Central Library from Monday 8 to Wednesday, December 17, to choose your jumper. You will have the opportunity to browse other donated festive jumpers, pick out your new favourite Christmas look and walk away with a “new-to-you” Christmas jumper!

Benefits: Swapping Christmas jumpers reduces the demand for new production, lowering carbon emissions and water usage associated with textile manufacturing. By choosing to reuse, we are cutting waste and helping families save money. Jumper swaps offer a simple and sustainable way to access “new” jumpers without the expense, benefiting both the planet and your pocket.

How to participate: Please ensure your jumper is freshly washed and check for any repairs needed before bringing it to your nearest Library. All styles are welcome, from subtle snowflakes to light-up Santas!

Together, we can make the festive season more sustainable while keeping the Christmas spirit alive. Clothes swaps are a great way for children to see us making more sustainable choices. A Christmas jumper swap reduces waste by keeping garments in use and out of landfill, cuts carbon emissions by avoiding the production and transport of new clothing and supports the circular economy by promoting reuse, while also raising awareness of sustainable habits encouraging people to rethink fast fashion.

Circular economy initiatives including repair, reuse and waste reduction play a key role in cutting emissions and conserving resources, aligning with Donegal County Council’s Climate Action Plan (LACAP) 2024–2029. So let’s get into the Christmas spirit and give those unwanted Christmas jumpers a new lease of life!

Geansaithe na Nollag á Malartú
An bhfuil geansaí na Nollag agat a bhfuil a splanc caillte aige? Beidh Geansaithe na Nollag á Malartú i Lárleabharlann Leitir Ceanainn ón Luan 8 Nollaig go dtí an Chéadaoin 17 Nollaig. Is imeacht é seo nach ndéanann dochar don timpeallacht, déantar athnuachan ar stór éadaí na Nollag agus bíonn deis ag daoine geansaithe na Nollag a thabhairt chun beochta arís.

An dóigh a n-oibríonn sé: Tabhair geansaí na Nollag atá glan agus a bhfuil bail mhaith air go dtí an leabharlann is gaire duit roimh an Aoine 5 Nollaig. Tá liosta iomlán de na leabharlanna agus dár gcuid seirbhísí saor in aisce le fáil anseo Leabharlanna | Comhairle Contae Dhún na nGall – An Rannán Cultúir

Nuair a thugann tú geansaí go dtí an leabharlann is gaire duit, gheobhaidh tú dearbhú ar pháipéar. Tabhair leat é go dtí an Lárleabharlann idir an Luan 8 Nollaig agus an 17 Nollaig chun do gheansaí a roghnú. Beidh an deis agat do shúil a chaitheamh ar gheansaithe Nollag eile a tugadh isteach, roghnaigh an stíl Nollag is fearr leat agus fág le geansaí Nollag “nua a oireann duitse”!

Buntáistí: Nuair a dhéantar geansaithe Nollag a mhalartú, ní bhíonn an t-éileamh céanna ar gheansaithe nua - rud a laghdaíonn astaíochtaí carbóin agus úsáid uisce, gnéithe a bhaineann le déantúsaíocht teicstílí. Nuair a bhaineann muid athúsáid as rud, táimid ag gearradh siar ar rudaí a chur amú agus ag cuidiú le teaghlaigh airgead a shábháil. Is dóigh shimplí agus inbhuanaitheach é malartú geansaithe le geansaithe “nua” a aimsiú gan aon chostas, rud a théann chun sochair don phláinéad agus don phóca araon.

An dóigh le bheith páirteach ann: Cinntigh le do thoil go bhfuil do gheansaí nite agus seiceáil le haghaidh aon rud ar chóir bail a chur air sula dtabharfaidh tú go dtí an leabharlann is gaire duit é. Tá fáilte roimh gach stíl, idir gheansaithe le calóga beaga sneachta agus Daidí na Nollag le solas!

Le chéile, is féidir linn an inbhuanaitheacht a chur chun cinn le linn shéasúr na Nollag agus spiorad na Nollag a choinneáil beo fosta. Trí mhalartú éadaí, feiceann páistí go bhfuil roghanna inbhuanaithe á ndéanamh againn.

Laghdaíonn malartú ar gheansaithe na Nollag an méid a chuirtear amú trí bhaill éadaigh a bheith in úsáid go leanúnachchun nach mbeidh siad i líonadh talún. Déantar laghdú ar na hastaíochtaí carbóin trí tháirgeadh agus iompar éadaí nua a sheachaint agus tacaíonn sé leis an gheilleagar ciorclach trí athúsáid a chur chun cinn, feasacht ar nósanna inbhuanaithe a ardú chun daoine a spreagadh le hathmhachnamh a dhéanamh ar mhearfhaisean.

Tá ról lárnach ag tionscadail a bhaineann le geilleagar ciorclach lena n-áirítear deisiú, athúsáid agus laghdú ar chur amú, ó thaobh astaíochtaí a laghdú agus acmhainní a chaomhnú. Tagann an méid seo le Plean Gníomhaíochta Aeráide Chomhairle Contae Dhún na nGall (LACAP) 2024–2029. Bímis lán le spiorad na Nollag agus cuirimis beocht i seangheansaithe na Nollag arís!
