Donegal Town is set to sparkle, and this year everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the celebrations.
Ernan McGettigan from the Christmas Lights Committee said: “We are delighted to confirm that we have a full Christmas Lights Display in Donegal Town for 2022 making it once again the most Christmassy Town in the Northwest!
“This is because of the generosity of the businesses who have contributed to date and our local elected members; Donegal County Council and Roads Engineer Mark Sweeney who agreed to a contribution of €8000.00 which is allocated from parking reserves revenue collected in Donegal Town.”
The Annual Christmas Lights Switch On will take place on Thursday, December 1 at 6pm on The Diamond, returning to its normal format pre-Covid with Santa and helpers joining the celebrations for the evening.
Ernan added: “As this will be my last year coordinating the Annual Christmas Lights Display, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our local businesses, elected members, Donegal County Council, clergy, Raymond Timoney Electrical, Jim Feeley, Lights N Shades, press and radio, community groups, directors, and staff of Donegal Town Community Chamber CLG, volunteers, the general public, and most importantly the teams of men who assisted with this venture since 1999 and in particular in the latter years Raymond, Billy, Mark and Joe for their continued support.
“As this is the first year back to normality, the Committee hopes that this will be a great Christmas for everyone in our community and we look forward to a crowded Diamond on Thursday, December 1 at 6pm.”
Trophies will be presented on the night for the best Annual Christmas Window Display.
“Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year,” said Ernan.
