Get your walking boots on for the Ardara Walking Festival 2022
It is time to get your walking boots dusted off and get prepared to take part in the Ardara Festival Walking 2022 which is back from March 18 - 20.
On Saturday, March 19, you can enjoy a walk along the beautiful Owenea river. The walk is a 12km easy to moderate walk and incorporates the Lough McHugh loop walk. You will travel along the Bluestack Walk and the International Appalachian Trail. There will be a bus pick-up from Ardara town car park behind Nancy’s Bar at 10.30am.
A moderate to difficult walk will also take place from Lough Finn gully to Aghla hike. Distance varies on the day. A strenuous start leading to a spot height of 593m with beautiful panoramic views of our surrounding counties, for experienced hikers only. There will be a bus pick-up point from Ardara Town car park at 9.30am or meet at the car park by Fintown GAA pitch.
On Sunday, March 20, an easy to moderate walk of 10km to 12km will take place through Sheskinmore Nature Reserve, taking in Ballinreavey strand. The bus pick-up point will be from Ardara town car park behind Nancy’s Bar at 10.30am.
A coastal walk ascending from Maghera onto Sliabh Tuaidh will be an easy to moderate walk. Described as a spectacular hike with beautiful views of Maghera, Loughros Point, Dawros Bay and the surrounding areas. The ground can be difficult and steep in places and this walk is for experienced hikers only. The bus pick-up point will be from Ardara Town car park behind Nancy’s Bar at 9am or parking at Maghera car park with the hike leaving from there at 9.30am.
Children are welcome on the easy to moderate walks if they are accompanied by an adult and are capable of the distance. Registration will take place in the Heritage Centre Ardara from 7pm – 9pm and fees apply. Please make sure you have a personal first-aid kit and wear appropriate gear on the day.
