St Johnston and Carrigans Family Resource Centre has a vacancy for an After School Homework Facilitator for 1.5 hours per week for 8 weeks. The position requires a relevant qualification and/or three years’ experience working in a classroom or homework club setting with primary school children. Candidates should have a knowledge of current Child Protection procedures and legislation.  Please contact Deborah at 0749148551 for job description. Carrigans NS

Pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th Classes in Scoil an Linbh Íosa attended Sci-Fest 2019 on Monday 8 April in St. Mary's College, Derry.  The SciFest programme is a one-day STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) fair for second-level students and which is open to primary school pupils to attend. The aim of the programme is to encourage an interest in, and love of, the STEM subjects.

Scoil an Linbh Íosa hosted a Creative Writing Workshop in the school on 26 March. The workshop was delivered by local writer, Liam Porter and pupils from 3rd to 6th Classes attended.  

Liam gave a short talk on how he got involved in writing and then participated in a question and answer session where pupils posed several questions for Liam on the inspiration for his stories and poems as well as the process of publishing a book.  

Liam then did a creative writing lesson with the pupils.  The initiative was a huge success and was part of the PEACE IV Shared Education project which the school is involved in.

CE Scheme

Here is an update for St Johnston and Carrigans Community Employment Project (funded by DEASP).  The scheme has the following vacancies: Two Assistant Youth workers in St Johnston and Carrigans Family Resource Centre. This is a good opportunity to return to work in a supportive environment. Monreagh NS

The school hosted chocolate making for Mother’s Day 2019.  The junior room made a mixture of chocolates for their lovely mammies for Mother’s Day! They decorated boxes with hearts and ribbons, and wrote a nice message on them.

School assembly messages.  Congratulations to Shania, James and Adam for achieving Silver!  Jodie was the winner of the new Green Schools motto and Adam designed the winning mascot – Energy Bear! Well done!  Paul and Kayla received prizes for creating the new Active school motto a few weeks
