Shane Ferguson’s move to Finn Harps has fallen through, interim manager Patrick McEleney has confirmed.

The former Premier League player, who made 57 appearances for Northern Ireland, signed for the Harps last week, but complications have arisen with a previously signed deal across the water.

Ferguson last played with Northern Premier League Division One East side Morpeth Town earlier this year.

“Unfortunately, it’s one of those things where something was signed in England,” McEleney said after the Harps suffered a 1-0 defeat to Athlone Town in Finn Park on Friday night.

“He’s devastated and obviously we wanted him to come in, but it’s not happening, and it’s an unfortunate position for us all.

“He won’t be here, which is a massive disappointment for us and for him because he really wanted to come and help and get his career going again.

“It’s just one of them things where something was signed along the lines somewhere and we couldn’t get the deal done and that’s where it is.”
