Goals made the difference for Four Masters - Thomas Lenehan

Four Masters took home a fifth minor title in-a-row on Friday night with victory over St Eunan’s and Four Masters corner-forward Thomas Lenehan agreed that the goals at the start of the second half made the difference.
The Donegal Town boys played against the gale force wind in the opening half and turned around just two points adrift and then hit two quick goals at the start of the second half which sent them on their way to a 2-12 to 1-6 win.
“It was difficult against the wind and myself and Tomás (Carr) had a couple of efforts which weren’t really on and we worked the ball after that,” said Lenehan, who is starting his final year at Abbey Vocational School.
Despite that Lenehan and Tomás Carr are also now vital cogs in the Four Masters senior side, who are also chasing honours.
The first goal came after a good run from Carr and the ball broke to Lenehan, whose effort was blocked and Gethin Mosby followed up by crashing it to the net.
“Gethin is a good man in and around that area,” said Lenehan. “The second goal came from a great run from Conor Griffin and he is well capable of that.
“Those goals put us in a strong position and we were able to control the game a little after that.”
The win means that Four Masters will be back in action in the Ulster Minor Club competition later in the year and it is a competition they have been very competitive in, getting to finals, but Lenehan was disappointed with their exit last year.
“We are busy with the seniors and we have Ballyshannon this Sunday, so that’s our next focus.
“But yeah, Ulster then but that will not be until December. And listen, we lost in the quarter-finals last year and we were disappointed with that. We’ll be hoping to go up there and after that performance tonight we’ll be confident that we put our best foot forward.
“I’m not saying we can go on and win it now, but I’m saying that we’ll be happy with what we did tonight.”
