After the fourth and final round of the Donegal SFC league phase was completed on Sunday, every team now knows their situation for the coming weeks.
Wins for Naomh Conaill (vs Kilcar), St Eunan’s (vs St Michael’s) and Gaoth Dobhair (vs Killybegs) put them on seven points, while a draw was enough for Dungloe against Termon to reach that mark, and those four teams all made the top four, which sees them go straight into the quarter-finals in three weeks time.
They will have to wait to see who they will play, however, with the preliminary quarter-finals to come next weekend.
Defeats for Glenswilly (vs Sean MacCumhaills) and Kilcar mean they dropped out of the top four on the final week, while Four Masters got a third win (vs Aodh Ruadh) as those three teams finished on six points.
MacCumhaills are next on four points, picking up their first win after two previous draws, while Downings’ win over Glenfin and Termon’s draw put them on three points.
And while four teams finished on two points, only two of them made it into the top 12.
Naomh Columba’s nine-point win over Ardara puts them eleventh, and while St Michael’s lost, they hung on to the final preliminary spot with a -11 score difference.
Glenfin dropped to 13th with a -13 score difference, while Ardara’s -14 score difference has them just behind.
Killybegs and Aodh Ruadh were the only two sides not to pick up a point, making up the bottom two in that order.
The preliminary quarter-finals are done so that fifth play twelfth, sixth play eleventh, and so on, which means that Four Masters will play St Michael’s and Kilcar will host neighbours Naomh Columba.
Glenswilly will take on Termon in another derby, while there is a repeat of last year’s preliminary quarter-final as MacCumhaills and Downings will meet.
Glenfin and Aodh Ruadh will face off in the relegation semi-final for the second year in a row, while there is another local derby as Ardara and neighbours Killybegs meet.
The preliminary quarter-finals will take place next weekend, before a week's break for the Hurling Championship finals, and the quarter-final proper will take place on the weekend of September 26.
