Hegarty was a touch unfortunate to give away a penalty in the 1992 final, with Dessie Farrell going down. However, Charlie Redmond put the kick wide at the Canal End. The Naomh Columba defender was a Donegal SFC winner in 1990. First came into the Donegal seniors in 1991 and featured in the championship until 2001. Works as a farmer.
