Seven things: Wildlife sanctuaries around the county

Donegal is home to a diverse landscape which hosts ten nature reserves displaying a significantly varied range of wildlife and natural habitat such as woodlands and wetlands

Tropical World
Tropical World is a zoo located in Letterkenny, which gives a rainforest atmosphere upon entrance. It has been described by Tripadvisor as “Donegal’s hidden gem” and the “one must-see attraction to visit in Donegal.” The tropical zoo and butterfly gardens display a wide range of exotic animals.

Tropical World expands their animal collection annually. As you enter you'll be met by hundreds of tropical butterflies in all shapes and sizes soaring freely. There are also lorikeets, turacos, owls and other birds from across the world. Tropical World is also home to lemurs and the world’s smallest breed of monkeys along with racoons, meerkats, crocodiles and other creatures.

In 2017, a new feature called Jurassic Land was added which exhibits the prehistoric past. Additionally, Bug World was added which is a collection of insects, arachnids and beetles. If you want a tropical experience with mammals, insects and birds from across the globe, Tropical World is the place for you.

Tropical World is also educational and whilst there you can learn about an array of mammals, exotic Birds, reptiles and insects in a comfortable, temperature-controlled environment.
