Peadar Mogan celebrates at full time
1. Winter work has paid off
Donegal have been able to push on in the second half of a lot of their games and the work they put in to get the fitness up has paid off.
The one outlier when Donegal looked tired in the final moments came in their defeat to Tyrone in MacCumhaill Park in the opening All-Ireland group stage game.
Jim McGuinness didn’t allow the excuse of a hangover from their Ulster triumph, but it can be forgiven with how they have done since.
In games against Cavan, Louth and Monaghan, Donegal won the second half by margins of 12, 14 and 13, respectively.
Granted, they were outscored by Mayo in the second period in Roscommon, but they still hung on to win thanks to Ciaran Moore’s burst of energy late on.
The hard work over the winter months has been shown on the pitch, with sweeping bursts forward through the likes of Finnbarr Roarty, Moore, Shane O’Donnell, Peadar Mogan and Caolan McColgan to the fore multiple times.
