3. Confidence in side prevents buckling under pressure

The sides were level at 0-8 apiece on 25 minutes, but the final ten minutes of the first half saw Monaghan hit 1-7 to Donegal’s 0-3 for a seven-point lead at the break.

It was a really difficult spell for Donegal, and maybe half-time came at the right moment to allow them a breather from the Monaghan dominance, but they turned it around in the second half.

Speaking to the media after the game, McGuinness said that he didn’t feel the need to change anything at the break and his trust in the side paid off.

The confidence and belief instilled in the team by the manager have created a never-say-die mentality and their ability to bounce back in adversity was shown again on Saturday.
