"For the first time since 2007, on Sunday as Kerry rolled into Ballybofey, Dún na nGall began their footballing year without Neil McGee and Michael Murphy," says Fr Seán Ó Gallchóir.
"They have been Donegal’s full-back and our full-forward respectively since 2009. They were heroes on September 23, 2012, when Jim McGuinness’s side beat Mayo 2-11 to 0-13 to win the All-Ireland title, with only Patrick McBrearty remaining of those who played for Donegal in Croke Park that day.
"McGee and Murphy top the appearances’ list of those who have worn the Donegal jersey. They have graced the hallowed turf of Seán MacCumhaill Park with both club and county with wonderful distinction for almost 20 years. They are true heroes, giants, legends of Donegal football. Is laochra ghaisciúla an bheirt acu nach ndéanfar dearmad go deo daofa in annála C.L.G. Dhún na nGall.
"The Dún na nGall C.L.G. community is deeply indebted to Neil McGee and Michael Murphy for their loyal, unselfish and wonderful service to the county in three decades.
