Introducing the awards for the U-17s, joint manager Greg Doherty said they had 43 players turning up for minor training in February and they decided to enter two teams and split the panel equally. "We ended up with both teams in the divisional final and it proved to be pivotal in the club's success."
The divisional final in May pitted the Whites against the Blues with the Whites winning and then winning a county semi-final before losing out to Buncrana in the league final.
In the championship the panel was divided into Division 1 and Division 3 teams and they went on to win both championships in Donegal before the Division 1 team went on to win Ulster.
Doherty pointed to the success over Magherafelt in the opening game as a great lesson for the players and for up and coming players. "We were seven points down at half-time and with 59 minutes on the clock we were five points down. Then with six minutes of injury time played and we scored 2-1 to go on and win the game and then to go on and win the cup."
After the semi-final win over Castleblayney, some of the St Paul's club members said it was the best half of football they had seen in the tournament. Four Masters had hit 5-11 to 0-1 in that first half.
Doherty paid tribute to all the panel who represented the club in the St Paul's Tournament, and also the players from the previous year. He said the St Paul's Club were very impressed with the way the boys and management had conducted themselves.
Rory O'Donnell was a very capable MC at the event and presentations were made to three U-13 teams, two U-15 teams and the four successful U-17 teams with Most Improved Player and Player of the Year awards in each age group.
