A decade of Big Four dominance as Championship contenders unlikely to change

As the new championship season begins this weekend, we look back at some of the most memorable, controversial, and talked about matches between Donegal's Big Four - Naomh Conaill, St Eunan's, Gaoth Dobhair, and Kilcar, over the past decade

Kilcar 0-7 Naomh Conaill 0-4 (final 2017) - Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go

The 2017 decider in front of 7,000 supporters at MacCumhaill Park may not go down in the annals as a classic but the only thing that really counted for the men from Towney was the result.

It was a very poor spectacle with both sides just managing one point in the second half even though conditions were perfect for football.

The teams committed their full panels to defence in what was a very disappointing final.

The first half was not a great spectacle with both sides pulling almost all their players behind the ball when not in possession.

By the end of the 31 minutes Kilcar had a three-point advantage, thanks mainly to the accuracy of captain Patrick McBrearty.

The only major talking points of this borefest came in the final minutes of the game when Naomh Conaill lost Dermot Molloy to a second yellow card for a high tackle on Michael Hegarty.

It got worse as Eoghan McGettigan saw red as the game entered added time, while Kilcar lost Stephen McBrearty for a black in the final seconds.
