Glenfin - 2001/02
Glenfin were the first Donegal club to win the Ulster IFC title, when they overcame Dungannon Clarke’s 0-13 to 0-10 at Páirc Uí Néill, Clontibret, with Stephen McDermott man of the match and sporting a bandage around the head as he picked up his award afterwards.
Mark McGinty kept Gerard Cavlan to one from play as part of his seven frees and up front, three points from Frank Ward and Michael McGlynn, as well as two apiece from Kieran Moy, Kevin McGlynn and Leigh Herron sealed the victory.
This came following on from their domestic crown in Donegal, where they beat Malin 1-13 to 0-11. A 1-14 to 0-6 victory over Castlewellen and then a 1-9 to 1-8 semi-final success against Monaghan’s Ballybay seal their provincial final berth.
However, despite their provincial success - Donegal’s first at any level since 1975 and St Joseph’s in the senior bracket - there was no All-Ireland series at the time for Glenfin to test their luck.
